Local 57 was chartered on July 8, 1893 and holds the oldest charter in the Eighth District of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Local 57 currently represents approximately 2100 members and has statewide jurisdiction over all of Utah as well as parts of Wyoming and Idaho for Outside Construction, Utility and Telephone.
In 1938 the local union organized Utah Power & Light Company, which resulted in the first full time Business Manager – a construction lineman by the name of Eldon “Butch” Carter. Other Business Managers of Local 57 were Joe Nichols, Elsworth “Stub” Cleveland, Vince Pearson, Ralph Hedquist, Les Bell, Louis Felice, Blaine Newman, Byron Nielsen and Brent Donohue. Kevin Owen is the current Business Manager and was elected in June of 2020.
When temperatures spike, IBEW workers keep their cool.

Every day we’re braving the elements and working around-the-clock to keep your power on and your family safe.

unless it is within the scope and aspiration
of Labor's aspirations and wants.
